A webinar on “Intellectual Property Rights Awareness ” was held on 23rd February 2023 by ED Cell and IIC MGI-COET, in association with Indian Patent Office Mumbai. Intellectual property refers to the protection of creation of mind which has both a moral and a commercial value. Intellectual property rights are the rights given to the persons over the creation of their mind: usually give the creator an exclusive right over the use of his/her creations for a certain period of time. The effective and enforceable system for protection of IPR promotes the innovation in science by promoting strong incentives to authors and innovators to create intellectual assets. ED Cell and IIC MGI-COET, in association with Indian Patent Office Mumbai has organized online IPR awareness program on 23rd February 2023 from 1:45 pm to 3:45 pm. In this program 502 students and 52 faculty members from MGI-COET and other institutes of Maharashtra were present. Dr. P.M. Ardhapurkar (President, IIC- MGICOET) and Prof. Prashant Borakhede (Convenor, ED Cell) were coordinators of this activity. Mr. Saurabh Upadhyay (Officer, Indian Patent Office Mumbai) was guest speaker of the session. He has started his talk with the necessity of the Patent. He has also explained the basic concept of Intellectual Property (IP) and Intellectual Property Right (IPR). Further, he gave details of role of IPR for innovations and start-ups. At the end, he briefly introduced various mechanisms to describe and protect IP. The session was very useful to students as they became aware for importance of IPR. The session was ended with the interaction among the speaker and present students.
